Apply for a Grant

Missouri State Parks administers three federally funded grant programs and one state-funded grant program related to outdoor recreation. It also administers one federally funded grant program related to historic preservation. This page provides basic information about each program.

Purchase a Gift Card

A Missouri State Parks gift card lets you take advantage of a more convenient way to make camping reservations, purchase state park merchandise and give great gifts to your friends. A gift card can be purchased for $10 or more. Physical gift cards purchased online or by phone will be sent by postal mail. Please allow seven to 10 business days for delivery. E-gift cards will sent to the email address on your customer account within 24 hours.

Purchase an ORV Permit - ORV Riding

ORV permits can be bought online for up to three days of riding. Riders can purchase their ORV permit before arriving to the park. Permits are nonrefundable and nontransferable.

Rent a Watercraft - Paddling

Watercrafts are available for all-day and half-day rentals. A watercraft agreement will be completed at the park. A driver's license will be obtained by the park office and kept there until all rented equipment is returned.

Reserve a Meeting Space

Several parks and historic sites offer meeting spaces. Visit the Park Site & Status Map to decide which space is right for you and use the reservation system to stake your claim on your date.

Metal Detecting Registration Form

Metal detecting activities are allowed on designated beaches in certain Missouri state parks, within the constraints shown below. This registration must be completed each calendar year.

Metal Detecting Locations and Hours

Metal detecting can ONLY take place on designated beaches in the following state parks, during the hours and seasons listed below.

Watkins Mill State Park 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Closed The park office advises you to call 816-580-3387 24 hours in advance of any planned metal detecting. This will allow park staff to confirm your permit and grant you access to the beach.

 

Metal Detecting Rules

  • Metal detectors may be used to the shoreline adjacent to the specified beaches of the above named parks.
  • Any solid-faced digging or probing tool cannot exceed 12 inches in overall length and 3 inches in width. Any sand digging or sifting scoop cannot exceed 12 inches in overall length and 6 inches in width. Suction dredges and grappling hooks may not be used.
  • Plants may not be dislodged or have their roots disturbed.
  • Operator shall wear or carry a litter apron or bag, and all litter found must be deposited in an appropriate trash receptacle.
  • Operator shall have this Proof of Registration email in his/her possession at all times while using a metal detector.
  • This registration and acknowledgement is nontransferable.
  • Contact the facility manager if a historic, archaeological or item valued at $10 or more is found.
  • The facility manager shall have authority to evict an operator for failure to comply with these rules.
  • Registration must take place each calendar year and can be done below.

Holder understands and acknowledges that outdoor recreational activities including metal detecting have inherent risks. By engaging in this activity, Holder assumes all risks and responsibility for injury or property damage arising from this activity at a Missouri State Park, and agrees to hold harmless the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, its agents and employees for the same. Holder will follow all laws and regulations for this activity, and the rules described herein, and understands and agrees that any violation may result in permit revocation, loss of privileges and/or eviction from the park.
