Volunteers will discover the importance of cultivating native plants for pollinators\, and they will get tips and ideas for creating pollinator gardens in their own yards. Each workday will go from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, but volunteers are not required to stay for the entire event. \nParticipants should wear comfortable clothes that they don’t mind getting dirty and bring garden gloves\, water\, snacks\, lunch and sunscreen. A garden kneeler may also come in handy. All tools will be provided. Registration is not required\, but returning volunteers will be asked to sign up in the Missouri State Parks volunteer system. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a signed parental consent form. For more information\, call the nature center at 417-847-3742. \nWeekend Schedule:\nEvent flyer | Printable schedule \nFriday\, June 20\n9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Activities at the Nature Center \nExplore the word of pollinators through hands-on crafts and activities and a scavenger hunt. \n10 a.m. – Bird-Watching Hike on Pibern Trail \nMeet at the trailhead at the back of Campground 1 to look for birds and discover the connections between birds and pollinators. Please bring water and wear sturdy shoes. \n3 p.m. – Pollinator Pizza Party \nDid you know that pollinators help produce over 35% of the foods we eat every day? Join us at the CCC Lodge to learn about the role that pollinators play in our food production. We’ll also discuss whether it’s possible to make pizza without pollinators. \nSaturday\, June 21\n9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Activities at the Nature Center \nExplore the word of pollinators through hands-on crafts and activities and a scavenger hunt. \n9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Pollinator Garden Tours \nJoin us at the nature center to take a stroll through our native plants pollinator garden. Discover the importance of providing space for pollinators on your own property and learn how to start your own pollinator garden. \n10 a.m. – Wildflower Hike \nMeet at the special-use area on Highway F to marvel at the native wildflowers on one of Roaring River’s scenic glades. We will hike about 1 mile on rugged terrain. Please bring water\, sturdy shoes and insect repellent. \n2 p.m. – Story Time With the Library \nMeet staff from the Cassville Library at the nature center for a reading of “Begin With a Bee” by Liza Ketchum\, Jacqueline Briggs Martin and Phyllis Root. Then\, create your very own pollinator craft to take home. \n8 p.m. – Moths of Missouri \nJoin us at the amphitheater to discover the marvelous moths of Missouri! In this program\, we will uncover how these creatures are built for survival and the incredible role they play in our world. SUMMARY:Coffee for the Birds
DESCRIPTION:3/29/2025 | Roaring River State Park | Cassville\, MO\nIf going on a morning birding hike and then kicking back with a relaxing cup of coffee sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday morning\, then sign up for Coffee for the Birds at Roaring River State Park! \nWe’ll meet in the lower level of the CCC Lodge at 8 a.m. for an approximately 1-mile bird-watching hike on part of Devil’s Kitchen Trail. Binoculars will be provided\, but you’re welcome to bring your own. Be sure to bring water and sturdy shoes. \nThe hike will be followed by an indoor activity at 10 a.m. back in the lower level of the lodge. During this portion of the event\, you’ll get to enjoy a cup of coffee while learning about the connections between your coffee and some of the birds that migrate from Missouri to the coffee-growing regions of Central and South America each winter. \nCoffee for the Birds is presented by Missouri State Parks with assistance from the Missouri Department of Conservation. The event is free and open to the public\, but space is limited and registration is required by clicking the link below. SUMMARY:First Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:1/1/2025 | Roaring River State Park | Cassville\, MO\nJoin us as we celebrate a new year in nature! As part of America’s State Parks First Day Hikes initiative\, park staff will lead a rugged 1.5-mile hike on Devil’s Kitchen Trail at Roaring River State Park. We will start by hiking up to the limestone bluff\, where we will have the chance to explore two small caves. We will then climb above the limestone bluff into chert woodlands and round out our hike with a view of the Devil’s Kitchen rock feature. \nHikers should expect steep and possibly muddy and slick sections of trail. Participants are encouraged to wear waterproof boots\, dress appropriately for the weather\, and bring water and snacks. Those wanting to enter the caves should also bring a flashlight. We will meet in the lower level of the CCC Lodge. Restrooms are available in the lodge. \nThis hike is free and open to the public\, and all ages are welcome. Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash.  \nRegistration is required for this event and can be completed by clicking here. \nFor more information\, call the park office at 417-847-2539.
