SUMMARY:First Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:1/1/2026 | Roaring River State Park | Cassville\, MO.\nStart the new year off right with a guided hike on Devil’s Kitchen Trail at Roaring River State Park. We will meet inside the CCC Lodge at 10 a.m. for a chance to use the restrooms before setting out on this 1.5-mile hike. \nWe will follow the rugged\, natural terrain of Devil’s Kitchen Trail to a limestone bluff\, where we will have the chance to explore a small cave. We will then climb above the limestone bluff into chert woodlands and round out our hike with a view of the Devil’s Kitchen rock feature. \nHikers should expect steep and possibly muddy and slick sections of trail. Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes\, dress appropriately for the weather\, and bring water and snacks. Those wanting to enter the caves should also bring a flashlight. \nThis hike is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome\, but the trail is not accessible for strollers or wheelchairs. Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash.  \nRegistration is required and can be completed using the link provided here. If the hike is canceled\, an announcement will emailed to registrants and posted on the park’s Facebook page and the Park and Site Status Map. \nFirst Day Hikes are promoted by America’s State Parks and are held at parks across the country at the start of each year. DESCRIPTION:12/20/2025 | Roaring River State Park | Cassville\, MO.\nRoaring River’s second annual Christmas Candlelight and Cookie Stroll will take place on Saturday\, Dec. 20. From 5:30-8:30 p.m.\, hundreds of luminaries will light the banks of the river\, evoking a sense of peace and wonder.  \nThere will also be a variety of activities and displays throughout the park: \n\nMeet and greet with Santa in the CCC Lodge\, 5:30-8:30 p.m.\nChristmas specials at the park store\, 5:30-8:30 p.m.\nChristmas tree display at the Emory Melton Inn\, 5:30-8:30 p.m.\nCivilian Conservation Corps living history display at the amphitheater\, 5:30-8:30 p.m.\nReadings of “The Night Before Christmas” at the amphitheater\, 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.\n\nAdmission to the event is free and open to the public. Visitors should dress for the weather and bring an additional light source\, such as a flashlight or lantern. DESCRIPTION:12/13/2025 | Roaring River State Park | Cassville\, Mo.\nJoin us to witness the Geminid meteor shower\, one of the biggest meteor showers of the year! Dress warmly for a night of meteor viewing and stargazing\, and come learn more about this cosmic spectacle. \nThis event will take place in the Emory Melton Inn parking lot\, just south of the park office along Highway 112. The inn restaurant will be selling warm grab-and-go food and drinks during the event.  \nThis come-and-go-style event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required. Attendees are encouraged to bring flashlights\, lawn chairs\, and money for food and drinks. Telescopes and binoculars are welcome but are not necessary\, as the shower can be seen with the naked eye. \nIn the event of precipitation or thick cloud cover\, the viewing will be canceled. Each workday will go from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, but volunteers are not required to stay for the entire event. \nParticipants should wear comfortable clothes that they don’t mind getting dirty and bring garden gloves\, water\, snacks\, lunch and sunscreen. A garden kneeler may also come in handy. All tools will be provided. Registration is not required\, but returning volunteers will be asked to sign up in the Missouri State Parks volunteer system. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a signed parental consent form. DESCRIPTION:3/29/2025 | Roaring River State Park | Cassville\, MO\nIf going on a morning birding hike and then kicking back with a relaxing cup of coffee sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday morning\, then sign up for Coffee for the Birds at Roaring River State Park! \nWe’ll meet in the lower level of the CCC Lodge at 8 a.m. for an approximately 1-mile bird-watching hike on part of Devil’s Kitchen Trail. Binoculars will be provided\, but you’re welcome to bring your own. Be sure to bring water and sturdy shoes. \nThe hike will be followed by an indoor activity at 10 a.m. back in the lower level of the lodge. During this portion of the event\, you’ll get to enjoy a cup of coffee while learning about the connections between your coffee and some of the birds that migrate from Missouri to the coffee-growing regions of Central and South America each winter. \nCoffee for the Birds is presented by Missouri State Parks with assistance from the Missouri Department of Conservation. The event is free and open to the public\, but space is limited and registration is required by clicking the link below. DESCRIPTION:1/1/2025 | Roaring River State Park | Cassville\, MO\nJoin us as we celebrate a new year in nature! As part of America’s State Parks First Day Hikes initiative\, park staff will lead a rugged 1.5-mile hike on Devil’s Kitchen Trail at Roaring River State Park. We will start by hiking up to the limestone bluff\, where we will have the chance to explore two small caves. We will then climb above the limestone bluff into chert woodlands and round out our hike with a view of the Devil’s Kitchen rock feature. \nHikers should expect steep and possibly muddy and slick sections of trail. Participants are encouraged to wear waterproof boots\, dress appropriately for the weather\, and bring water and snacks. Those wanting to enter the caves should also bring a flashlight. We will meet in the lower level of the CCC Lodge. Restrooms are available in the lodge. \nThis hike is free and open to the public\, and all ages are welcome.
