This family-friendly event is free and open to the public\, and there is no need to register. Just show up and enjoy! \nThe fun will begin on Saturday\, April 4\, with a showing of the 2011 movie “Hop.” The showing will take place in the campground amphitheater starting at 6:30 p.m. Complimentary popcorn will be provided. \nOn Easter Sunday (April 5)\, there will be a variety of activities in and around the large picnic shelter. These will include crafts\, games\, nature stations\, and two different Easter egg hunts: one for younger children and one for older children. SUMMARY:First Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:1/1/2026 | Onondaga Cave State Park\nJoin park staff for a guided hike of Vilander Bluff Trail on New Year’s Day. This moderately difficult hike will cover 1.3 miles over the course of about two hours.  \nThe hike will start at the Vilander Bluff Trail trailhead\, which is about 30 minutes east of the main park property. The trailhead is located along Thickety Ford Road\, north of Highway N\, near Bourbon\, Missouri. \nThis trail is named for Vilander Bluff\, the highest bluff along the Meramec River. The trail provides access to Vilander Bluff Natural Area\, a 206-acre tract known for its ancient eastern red cedars. Some of these cedars\, from 300 to 500 years old\, grow out of the rocks along the bluff. The trail features an outstanding example of a dry cliff community that contains two very rare species of lichens. It also takes hikers through a dry chert woodland and chert savanna before returning to the parking lot. \nYou should expect to encounter some loose rocks and steep terrain during the hike. Be sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes\, dress for the weather\, and bring plenty of water and snacks. All ages are welcome\, but the trail is not accessible for strollers or wheelchairs. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash. \nThis event is free\, but registration is required. Please register using the link provided here. If the hike is canceled\, an announcement will be emailed to registrants and posted on the park’s Facebook page and the Park and Site Status Map. \nFirst Day Hikes are promoted by America’s State Parks and are held at parks across the country at the start of each year. This year’s event will take place on Friday\, Oct. 24\, and Saturday\, Oct. 25. \nOn Friday\, we will show a family-friendly spooky movie at the campground amphitheater. The showing will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will include complimentary hot chocolate and popcorn. \nOn Saturday\, we will have a variety of activities in the campground from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Activities will include coloring\, costume and campsite decorating contests; a pumpkin and monster hunt; naturalist stations; and trick-or-treating. The campground road will be close to traffic at 4:45 p.m. Saturday to allow for extra safety during trick-or-treating. \nRegular camping fees apply\, but the event itself is free. Participants should dress warmly and wear closed-toe shoes. SUMMARY:Cathedral Cave Night Tour
DESCRIPTION:9/13/2025 | Onondaga Cave State Park | Leasburg\, MO\nThe Onondaga Friends Association is hosting a series of nighttime tours of Cathedral Cave. These unique tours are offered monthly from May through September. Each tour consists of a guided walk to and through the cave. Tours depart from the campground woodlot at 8:30 p.m. and last approximately two hours. \nThe walk to the cave covers about a quarter mile on Deer Run Trail\, and the round-trip cave tour is about two-thirds of a mile. The trails are occasionally hilly and slippery\, and the cave has a year-round temperature of 57 degrees. Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes with good traction and bring a light jacket. Flashlights will be provided\, but you are welcome to bring your own. \nEach tour has a maximum of 25 participants; admission is charged for everyone ages 6 and up. SUMMARY:Cathedral Cave Off-Trail Tour
DESCRIPTION:9/6/2025 | Onondaga Cave State Park | Leasburg\, MO\nOnondaga Cave State Park is hosting a series of off-trail tours of Cathedral Cave again in 2025. These tours are perfect for people who want to get a more intense cave experience\, one that goes beyond the lighted tour with rails and trails. Each tour is led by an experienced guide and requires participants to climb\, crawl and get a little muddy. Visitors will spend four to five hours in the cave and will learn about the cave’s geology\, biology and history. \nEach tour is limited to 15 people ages 10 and up\, and registration is required. There is a fee of $70 per adult and $50 per child. \nSafety is our top priority. All interested guests will be asked some questions to determine whether they are able to complete the tour\, and they will be shown a video of what to expect inside the cave. These unique tours are offered monthly from May through September. Each tour consists of a guided walk to and through the cave. Tours depart from the campground woodlot at 8:30 p.m. and last approximately two hours. \nThe walk to the cave covers about a quarter mile on Deer Run Trail\, and the round-trip cave tour is about two-thirds of a mile. The trails are occasionally hilly and slippery\, and the cave has a year-round temperature of 57 degrees. Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes with good traction and bring a light jacket. Flashlights will be provided\, but you are welcome to bring your own. \nEach tour has a maximum of 25 participants; admission is charged for everyone ages 6 and up. This 90-minute tour will be led by a park tour guide and feature assistance from two American Sign Language interpreters. Guests will not only experience the nature wonders of the cave but also learn about its history\, geology and biology. \nThe tour path is just under 1 mile long. There are lighted pathways with handrails along the route\, but there are a few steep inclines. In addition\, the cave has a year-round temperature of 57 degrees. Guests are encouraged to wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and bring a light jacket. We will meet at the visitor center. \nPaid registration is required and can be completed online. DESCRIPTION:6/14/2025 | Onondaga Cave State Park | Leasburg\, MO\nThe Onondaga Friends Association is hosting a series of nighttime tours of Cathedral Cave. These unique tours are offered monthly from May through September. Each tour consists of a guided walk to and through the cave. Tours depart from the campground woodlot at 8:30 p.m. and last approximately two hours. \nThe walk to the cave covers about a quarter mile on Deer Run Trail\, and the round-trip cave tour is about two-thirds of a mile. The trails are occasionally hilly and slippery\, and the cave has a year-round temperature of 57 degrees. Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes with good traction and bring a light jacket. Flashlights will be provided\, but you are welcome to bring your own. \nEach tour has a maximum of 25 participants; admission is charged for everyone ages 6 and up. You can purchase tickets at onondagafriends.org or pay with cash upon arrival. Cave tour fees apply. \nConditions in the cave include limited lighting\, concrete walkways\, metal handrails\, a cool temperature (57 degrees F year-round) and high humidity (nearing 100%). Participants should dress warmly and wear closed-toe shoes. They should also bring their own photography equipment\, as none will be provided.  \nThere is a maximum of 30 participants per tour\, and advance registration is preferred.
