SUMMARY:Landing After Hours: Mark Twain and His Amazing Friends
DESCRIPTION:Mark Twain is well known not just in Missouri\, but throughout the world as an author and humorist. However\, it may come as a surprise to learn how well connected he was to many other well-known figures from his time. In this program\, we’ll explore some of his famous friendships. We’ll especially focus on his relationships with Helen Keller\, Frederick Douglass\, Nikola Tesla\, P. T. Barnum\, Harriet Beecher Stowe and Ulysses S. Grant. \nThe Missouri State Museum’s Landing After Hours program is held the first Wednesday of each month at the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site\, located at 100 Jefferson St. Doors to the site’s Lohman Building open at 6:30 p.m.\, and the program begins at 7 p.m. Convenient parking is available in the lot next to the Lohman Building. \nIn addition to being held in person\, the program will also be livestreamed on the Missouri State Museum’s Facebook page. SUMMARY:First Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:1/1/2025 | Missouri State Museum | Jefferson City\, MO\nJoin Missouri State Museum staff for an urban exploration around Jefferson Landing State Historic Site\, the Capitol complex\, and Jefferson City Parks’ Deborah Cooper Park on Adrian’s Island. Staff will provide a tour as we take in the views of the Missouri River and the historic buildings. The hike will cover about 1.5 miles on sidewalks with some slight-to-moderate inclines\, including the Bicentennial Bridge. \nIt may be windy and chilly during the hike. Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate shoes\, dress warmly\, and bring water. Museum staff will be using a sound system that works with your favorite old-school headphones with a standard 3.5-millimeter headphone jack to help you hear all the great info. A limited supply of headphones will be available. \nThis event is free\, open to the public\, and suitable for all ages.
