SUMMARY:Archaeology Day
DESCRIPTION:9/20/2025 | Graham Cave State Park | Danville\, MO\nVisitors of all ages are encouraged to celebrate Missouri Archaeology Month at the site of one of our most archeologically significant caves. On Jan. 20\, 1961\, Graham Cave became the first archaeological site in the United States to be designated a National Historical Landmark. \nPark staff and partners invite you to come out to the park and enjoy a variety of archaeology-themed games\, activities and displays. Archaeologists have found atlatls on every continent except Antarctica. \nThis event is free and open to the public\, and there is no need to register. Activities will take place in the Lower Picnic Area and near the cave entrance. SUMMARY:First Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:1/1/2025 | Graham Cave State Park | Danville\, MO\nTake a journey through time at Graham Cave State Park. Graham Cave\, the National Historic Landmark for which the park is named\, reveals one of the most comprehensive records of early human habitation in the United States. Hike with us to explore the natural and cultural history of the park and learn how the park’s ecosystem is being restored and maintained. See restored areas reminiscent of the time before prairies became forests and cities\, and see tools that early humans used to survive before the invention of supermarkets. \nThis moderately challenging hike will use three trails – Fern Ridge\, Graham Cave and Indian Glade – and will go off-trail in Graham Cave Glades Natural Area. The total distance will be 2.5 miles\, but participants will have the option to hike only 2 miles instead. Hikers are encouraged to bring water\, dress in layers\, and wear closed-toe shoes with good ankle support for hiking on uneven terrain. Snacks and hot chocolate will be provided at the park office after the hike. \nThis event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome\, but strollers are not recommended. Pets are allowed but must be leashed. \nRegistration is required for this event and can be completed by clicking here.
