SUMMARY:First Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:1/1/2026 | Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park | Wildwood\, MO.\nJoin park staff for a guided First Day Hike on Hawthorn Trail. This moderately difficult trail offers a scenic hike along both sides of a narrow ridge where hikers will see distinct changes in plants and habitats. The senior naturalist will highlight some of the unique geology and glade ecology\, as well as the natural features and wildlife signs that are revealed in the winter landscape. The hike will cover a distance of about 1.2 miles. Meet at the trailhead near the Alta Picnic Shelter at 10 a.m. \nThis event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome\, but the hike is not accessible for strollers or wheelchairs. Participants should dress for the weather and bring water. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash. A limited number of commemorative patches will be available for participants to take home. \nRegistration is required and can be completed using the link provided here. If the hike is canceled\, an announcement will be emailed to registrants and posted on the park’s Facebook page and the Park and Site Status Map. \nFirst Day Hikes are promoted by America’s State Parks and are held at parks across the country at the start of each year. An interpretive guide with a PA system will give a presentation on the history of Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park and will share information about the local natural and cultural history. Each tour will host approximately 25 people and will begin at the visitor center. Participants are encouraged to bring cameras and dress for the weather.  \nThese events are free and open to the public\, but registration is required.
