DESCRIPTION:4/11/2026 | Sam A. Baker State Park | Patterson\, MO.\nSam A. Baker State Park is one of the most beautiful parks in the state\, and we could use your help in getting it ready for the upcoming visitation season. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources and Sam A. Baker State Park are proud to present the 33rd annual Keep Baker Beautiful Day\, to be held on Saturday\, April 11\, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.   \nThis event has always commemorated Earth Day\, but this year is particularly special because we are celebrating the park’s 100th anniversary! There will be assignments for all ages. Mulching\, gardening and litter patrol are just a few of the projects planned for the day. All are welcome! We will match service projects to volunteers based on age and ability\, and a crew leader from the park will lead each group through its assigned service. A free picnic lunch will be provided. \nParticipants are encouraged to bring drinking water and a pair of work gloves\, wear closed-toe shoes\, and dress for the weather. Volunteers should meet at Shelter #1 around 8:30 a.m. to get project assignments. The event is subject to cancellation due to severe weather\, but a little rain has never stopped us in the past. Call 573-856-4514 or 573-856-4411 to find out if the event is still on.  \nRegistration is required and must be completed by April 7. Come dressed up as your favorite character and trick or treat your way through the campgrounds. Plus\, enjoy Halloween games\, interpretive activities\, a haunted hike\, and campfire s’mores. \nThis annual event is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring a flashlight. \nEvent Schedule:\n\n4-6 p.m. – Trick-or-treating in the campground; trunk or treat near the recycling station by the Mudlick Mountain Store and Grill\n5-8 p.m. – Games and interpretive activities\, free food\, photo booth\, and campfire and s’mores – all at Shelter 1\n6-8 p.m. – Stroll through the ghoulish grounds at the amphitheater (no pets\, please) – offered repeatedly between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.\n\nATTENTION\, CAMPERS: You’re invited to participate in the Seventh Annual Campsite Decorating Contest. Baker State Park. \nWhitewater is an upbeat band that plays new and traditional bluegrass and gospel music with a little humor included. The band is a yearly staple at Baker and has performed at many other local venues and events\, including Trail of Tears State Park\, Bollinger Mill State Historic Site and the East Perry County Fair. So\, come on down and enjoy a good old-fashioned toe-tappin’ time. \nThe concert will be held at the park amphitheater\, located behind the visitor center. DESCRIPTION:Edible plants surround us in nature\, and many can serve as a tasty snack or side dish. Join a park naturalist to learn about some of these so-called “wild edibles” during a leisurely stroll on Shut-Ins Trail. As we walk\, we will discuss some of the dietary and medicinal uses of plants and learn about wild edible identification and folklore. However\, we will not pick or collect any plants\, and participants will be expected to stay on the trail. \nThis event is free and open to the public\, and there is no need to register.
