Drop in for a visit with St. Nicholas\, make a 19th century door decoration\, and learn Christmas customs of the Missouri Ozarks. As the day fades slowly into night\, watch the site come aglow with lanterns and listen to the sounds of Christmas from the Echoes of Dogwood Mountain dulcimer group. \nAll activities will take place in and around the Boone home. This annual event is free and open to the public\, and there is no need to register. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather. \nFor more information\, call the site at 417-751-3266. DESCRIPTION:1/1/2026 | Nathan and Olive Boone Homestead State Historic Site | Ash Grove\, MO.\nJoin site staff for our annual First Day Hike at Nathan and Olive Boone Homestead State Historic Site. First Day Hikes are promoted by America’s State Parks and are held at parks at the start of each year. \nThis moderately difficult guided hike will cover portions of all three of the site’s hiking trails – Spring Box\, Interpretive and Prairie View – for a total of 2.5 miles. Participants will hike through a once-thriving 19th century homestead and learn about the history of the homestead and the surrounding area. The hike will depart from the picnic shelter at 10 a.m. \nThis family-friendly event is free\, open to the public\, and suitable for all ages. Registration is required\, and participation is limited to 35 people. To register\, please use the link provided here.  \nIf the hike is canceled\, an announcement will be emailed to registrants and posted on the historic site’s Facebook page and the Park and Site Status Map.
