SUMMARY:Landing After Hours: Archaeology of the Phenix Co. Town: A Rural Backwater of Poverty and Illiteracy
DESCRIPTION:9/3/2025 | Missouri State Museum | Jefferson City\, MO\nThe Phenix Stone and Lime Co.\, located near Ash Grove\, Missouri\, produced structural stone and decorative elements used in the Missouri Capitol and many other buildings built in the early 20th century. In this presentation\, Missouri State University professors Scott Worman and Liz Sobel will share archaeological findings from the company town where many of the quarry workers lived. \nThis program is part of the Missouri State Museum’s Landing After Hours series. This series is held the first Wednesday of each month at Jefferson Landing State Historic Site. Doors to the site’s Lohman Building open at 6:30 p.m.\, and the program begins at 7 p.m. Convenient parking is available in the lot next to the Lohman Building\, at 100 Jefferson St. \nThe program will also be livestreamed on the Missouri State Museum’s Facebook page.
