SUMMARY:First Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:1/1/2026 | Harry S Truman State Park | Warsaw\, MO.\nHarry S Truman State Park will be hosting a First Day Hike on New Year’s Day 2026! First Day Hikes are promoted by America’s State Parks and are held at parks across the country at the start of each year. \nThis moderately challenging guided hike will take place on 1000th Mile Trail and cover a distance of 1 mile. This stretch of trail is significant because it was the 1\,000th mile of trail installed in Missouri’s state park system. The trail travels through a glade area\, climbs a large bluff\, passes through woodlands\, and then returns to the trailhead. There is a good possibility that participants will see white-tailed deer\, bald eagles\, wild turkey\, and other local and migratory birds. The views from the bluff are some of the best in the state and a must-see for nature lovers of all kinds. You will have a sweeping view of Truman Lake\, Truman Dam and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers visitor center. \nThe event is free\, open to the public\, and suitable for all ages. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and bring water and snacks. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash. \nRegistration is required and can be completed using the link provided here. DESCRIPTION:5/2/2025 | Harry S Truman State Park | Warsaw\, MO\nThe public is invited to attend a public meeting at Harry S Truman State Park on Friday\, May 2\, at 7 p.m. The event will take place inside the park office and will feature a town hall-style public meeting meeting and a conceptual development plan open house. \nThe town hall meeting is part of Missouri State Parks’ annual public meetings initiative. These meetings are held are for all state parks and historic sites and help create two-way communication with the public. Representatives from Missouri State Parks will be on hand to provide information about the park and answer questions. The public is encouraged to share comments about the park and its operations. \nThe open house is being held as part of Harry S Truman State Park’s conceptual development planning process. As the long-range plan for the park is updated\, the public is encouraged to come learn more about the planning process\, ask questions\, and provide input regarding future park use and development.
