SUMMARY:First Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:1/1/2026 | Cuivre River State Park | Troy\, MO.\nStart the new year off on the right foot with an easy guided walk in Cuivre River’s historic Camp Sherwood. Camp Sherwood was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and opened to the public in 1937. The camp is divided into four villages and contains 53 original buildings and structures. The majority of the camp was designated a historic district by the National Park Service in 1985.\n\nWe will meet at the park’s visitor center at 10 a.m. for hot chocolate and restroom breaks before driving up to Camp Sherwood. The tour will begin in the camp around 10:30 a.m. The walk will be about 0.6 mile along gravel roads. Please dress for the weather and bring water.\n\nThis event is free and open to the public. People of all ages and abilities are welcome\, but children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs are allowed\, but they must be kept under control and on a leash no longer than feet.  \nRegistration is required and can be completed using the link provided here. If the hike is canceled\, an announcement will be emailed to registrants and posted on the park’s Facebook page and the Park and Site Status Map. \nFirst Day Hikes are promoted by America’s State Parks and are held at parks across the country at the start of each year. DESCRIPTION:1/1/2025 | Cuivre River State Park | Troy\, MO\nStart off the new year with a 1.5-mile hike on Hamilton Hollow Trail. We will meet at the trailhead near the CCC Stone Shelter at 10 a.m. \nThis hike will cover the length of Hamilton Hollow Trail and will also include a short detour to view a spring. Hamilton Hollow Trail consists of natural surfaces and is considered moderately difficult. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather\, bring water\, and wear sturdy closed-toe shoes.  \nThis event is free\, open to the public\, and suitable for all ages. Pets are welcome but must remain on leash no longer than 10 feet at all times. The hike is subject to cancellation due to rain or lightning.
